Cost of Education

The amounts listed above are standard figures used for budgeting purposes and eligibility for need-based financial aid for the 2024-2025 academic year. Please note that tuition and fees, housing (for on-campus residents), and food (for students with meal plans) are the only costs paid directly to Western Kentucky University. If a student chooses to charge his/her books to their university account, this charge should appear on their bill. Because WKU offers a variety of housing and meal options, figures for on-campus students are listed as a range rather than actual billed charges. Books and supplies, transportation, and personal costs will vary by each student and are estimates only.

Tuition, meals, and housing charges appear on the student's bill. Students and parents should prepare for indirect out-of-pocket expenses for miscellaneous personal needs and transportation.

*Tuition charges for the semester reflect the Fall/Spring tuition rates. Additionally, there may be a difference in tuition charges for students who are either taking distance-learning courses, enrolled in certain programs/classes, or are members of specific cohorts. Please refer to the Tuition and Fees section on the Office of Student Billing & Account Services website for additional information.

**Book charges will range per number of credit hours the student is enrolled in as part of the Bid Red Backpack Program.

In-State Rates
In-State refers to individuals who are considered to be Kentucky residents.

Out-of-State Rates
Out-of-State refers to individuals who both live outside the state of Kentucky and still reside within the U.S.  In other words, this refers to U.S. Non-Residents (Domestic) who are not Kentucky residents but are still citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States.

T.I.P. stands for Tuition Incentive Program.
Students residing in any of the seven states surrounding Kentucky (IN, IL, OH, WV, VA, TN, and MO) may be eligible for a Border State Scholarship. All students living in a border state will be assessed the TIP rate. For more information these scholarships, please visit our scholarship website.

Tuition
This includes both tuition and fees associated with enrollment at WKU. Tuition charges are dependent upon the number of credit hours in which a student is enrolled.

Meals
A variety of meal plans are available through WKU Restaurant Group, located in DSU, Room 2096, Phone (270) 745-2416. These estimates are given based on a range of plans each of which offer a different variety of weekly meals as well as meal plan dollars. For the 2024-2025 Academic Year, all full-time Bowling Green campus undergraduate students that do not purchase a meal plan will participate in the $325 Flex Plan. This $325 Flex Plan will be automatically charged to your student account upon reaching full-time status if there is no meal plan on the account. For more information visit the WKU Restaurant Group's website

Room
This range includes on-campus lodging in a double occupancy room with air conditioning. Rates may vary depending upon different accommodation options. Housing and Residence Life is located in 18 Southwest Hall, Phone (270) 745-4359.

Books
These are expenses associated with purchasing both books and supplies. The WKU Store is located on the ground floor of DSU, Phone (270) 745-2466.
