Information Applicable to Beginning Freshmen Fall 2019

First-time freshmen refers to either graduating high school seniors or students who have not earned any college credit after high school graduation (with the exception of summer credit at the institution of Fall entry).

The purpose of the Scholarship Calculator is to provide first-time freshmen with an estimation of the types of academic scholarships that they might be eligible to receive at Western Kentucky University. By entering data into the Scholarship Eligibility box located below, students will be able to view a list of academic scholarships that they might qualify for based on the information that they had inputted into the Scholarship Eligibility box. Cherry Presidential

Competitively Awarded

Students with a minimum 3.8 unweighted GPA and a minimum 31 ACT (1420 SAT) qualify to compete for WKU’s most prestigious scholarship, the Cherry Presidential. To be considered for the Cherry Presidential Scholarship, students must have a complete application package on file by December 1.

Students who meet the initial criteria for the Cherry Presidential Scholarship but either miss the application deadline of December 1 OR are not selected as finalists for the Cherry Presidential Scholarship will instead be eligible for the Academic Merit Scholarship of $8,000 per academic year.

$8,000 per academic year

Students with a 3.8 to 4.0 unweighted GPA and a minimum 28 ACT (1310-1340 SAT) qualify for this Academic Merit Award.

Students who participated in KY Governor’s Scholars, KY Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs, KY Governor’s School for the Arts, National Merit and Achievement Semi-Finalists, or Rogers Scholars are eligible for this academic scholarship at WKU.

This Targeted Award requires a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA.

$1,500 per academic year

Students who were National Merit and Achievement Semi-Finalists or Rogers Scholars are eligible for this academic scholarship at WKU.

This Targeted Award requires a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA.

$2,500 per academic year

Students who are a resident of a TIP county, have a 3.0 unweighted high school GPA, an ACT composite score of 25 or greater (minimum 1200 SAT score), and are accepted to WKU may qualify for this Targeted Award.

In order to be considered for these scholarships, you must be a first-time incoming freshman planning to enroll full-time at WKU in the Fall semester. If you are eligible for an Academic Merit or Cherry Presidential scholarship, you may still qualify for a Targeted Award. However, you can only be awarded up to Cost of Attendance.
