SCHOLARHIPS FOR LITE STUDENTS

Sarah Gilbert Garris Scholarship (Undergraduate/Graduate): Each spring semester Garris scholarships are awarded for the following academic year. The scholarships are applied to tuition and vary depending upon the number of eligible applicants. Special consideration is given to students in Library Media Education. Recipients must be residents of Kentucky and graduates of Kentucky high schools. Grade point standing is not the only consideration. Other factors are good citizenship, financial need, willingness to work, and demonstrated potential for academic success. Beginning freshmen may be considered for the scholarship.
Sara Elizabeth Tyler Scholarship (Graduate): Each spring semester Tyler scholarships are awarded for the following academic year. The scholarships are applied to tuition and vary depending upon the number of eligible applicants. Recipients must maintain an overall 3.0 GPA.
Graduate Assistantships Available from WKU: Graduate assistantships are available each academic year in the School of Teacher Education and other units of the University. Students must be full-time. Information and application for a graduate assistantship may be obtained from the Office of Graduate Studies and the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach.

Other Scholarship Information
Evelyn Thurman Third District Media Association Scholarship (Graduate): The Evelyn Thurman Third District Media Association Scholarship is awarded to a part-time or full-time graduate student majoring in Library Media Education from the Third District region of Kentucky. The Third District includes Allen, Barren, Butler, Caverna Independent, Cumberland, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalf, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Simpson, Todd, and Warren counties.

Kentucky Library Association Minority Scholarships: The application deadline is in June. The scholarship recipient receives $1,000 (paid in two equal installments) as well as a one-year KLA student membership and free student registration to the KLA Annual meeting. The scholarship will be awarded to a student entering or with fewer than 9 credit hours in an American Library Association (ALA) or National Council for Teacher Education (NCATE)-accredited graduate library science program in Kentucky.The scholarship application can be accessed at http://www.kylibasn.org/docs/klascholarship.pdf. Jefferson County School Media Association Lucy Marx Scholarship: The scholarship is for the amount of $600.00. It is available for an individual who is currently enrolled in or has been accepted into a state-accredited program leading to certification in the area of school librarianship.
