About M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan
Letter from the President
Fellow Hilltoppers,
Congratulations on your decision to attend Western Kentucky University, and welcome to our Hilltopper family! You’ve made a great choice to climb higher and broaden your life experiences here at WKU. I look forward to the many opportunities we will have to get to know each other throughout the year.
Our mission at WKU is to advance our city, the Commonwealth, and our world by inspiring innovation, elevating communities and transforming lives. My hope for your time on the Hill is that you will find your life transformed by your WKU experience.
You’ll enjoy many benefits of living in Bowling Green, Kentucky, one of the nation’s best college towns and the fastest growing city in the Commonwealth. You can enjoy minor league baseball, a vibrant downtown with restaurants and specialty shops as well as a thriving retail district. And if on occasion you want a little bit more, we’re only a short hour’s drive to Nashville.
WKU is a campus with a rich history and unique traditions—like Big Red, one of the nation’s most beloved and recognizable college mascots, and legendary basketball coach Ed Diddle’s red towel. Our first President, Dr. Henry Hardin Cherry, coined the phrase “The Spirit Makes the Master.” While that motto is about preparing you to make a good living, just as importantly, it’s about educating and developing the whole person so that you can make a good life—both for yourself and for those around you.
So as you begin a new year, be inspired, be innovative, be a part of the community and be transformed!
Go Tops!
