Rebecca Golub is a collaborative pianist, vocal coach, and piano instructor coming to WKU from the Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Liberal Arts, where she served as an applied piano instructor and accompanist for the university choral ensemble. Rebecca holds a DMA in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music with a minor in Vocal Coaching from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Dr. Andrew Harley. She completed her Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from the University of Colorado-Boulder with Dr. Alexandra Nguyen and Dr. Margaret McDonald, and a Bachelor of Music from Eastman with Vincent Lenti.
During her studies, Rebecca received the 2023 Jean Barr Award which recognizes the artistry and excellence of a graduating collaborative pianist who has made an outstanding contribution to musical life at Eastman, the Barbara M.H. Koeng Award in 2022 which honors collaborative pianists with a passion and gift for vocal accompanying, and the Excellence in Accompanying Award in 2020. Additionally, she was a finalist in the Jessie Kneisel German Lieder competition in 2021. A devoted academic as well as performer, Rebecca was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society at Eastman in the spring of 2017.
As a Graduate Assistant at Eastman and CU Boulder, Rebecca coached and performed with graduate and undergraduate instrumentalists and vocalists on a wide range of repertoire. Recent instrumental performance highlights include Frank Bridge’s Phantasy Piano Quartet and Dvořák’s Piano Quintet in A major with her chamber group at Eastman. As a vocal coach, Rebecca has worked with singers on music in languages including French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Czech, Lithuanian, and English.
Rebecca is passionate about promoting musical works by living and underrepresented composers, and makes it a goal to program a diverse array of repertoire in addition to the standard classical canon. With soprano Sofia Scattarreggia, she recently presented a selection of cabaret songs by English composer Madeleine Dring at the Sixth Annual International Music by Women Festival in Columbus, MS, as well as the Women in Music Festival at Eastman. Additionally, she has had the opportunity to workshop music with contemporary composers including Jake Heggie, Libby Larsen, Anthony Davis, and Missy Mazzoli.
As an opera pianist, Rebecca has served as repetiteur for a variety of productions from Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd to Argento’s Postcard from Morocco. Additionally, in summer 2022 she served as one of four collaborative piano fellows for an opera training program in Bavaria, Germany. Over the years, she has appeared at numerous summer festivals including Songfest, Atlantic Music Festival, and AIMS in Graz. In summer 2023, she will join the Toronto Summer Music Art of Song festival as one of four featured collaborative pianist fellows. She is thrilled to be joining the WKU community this fall.
