The continuing education program at WKU is designed to support professional social workers in our region through offering trainings each year, which assist with meeting licensure requirements and professional development needs of regional social workers.

Instructor; Dr. Nina Wells, DSW, LCSW
Dr. Nina Wells (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with eight years of experience in clinical social work. Nina holds degrees in social work at the Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral levels. She opened her private practice in 2022 and works largely with women and queer clients. Outside of the clinical space, Nina invests in the next generation of social workers as a part-time instructor for Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky. She is the founder of Bowling Green Pride Raffle, an annual grassroots fundraiser that has raised over $17,000 for Bowling Green Pride Festival and The Trevor Project; she is a board member of SOKY Alliance, a local organization that provides community education and programming for queer youth.

- Know the history of Juvenile Justice and exploitation of juveniles

Instructor; Rudy Garcia, LCSW
Rudy Garcia is the District Student Support Specialist for Hardin County School, which
is the 4th largest district in Kentucky, and he is the only Social Worker at the district
level. He is responsible for 22 schools and 1 alternative school. He oversees the
Positive
Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program, the drug and alcohol violation
program (Title 4), the Trauma Informed Care program, the transition program for the
alternative school. He is also a supervisor for Social Work interns from several Universities
and is an adjunct professor for Western Kentucky University & University of Louisville.
Rudy retired from the Army after 22 years of service and moved to Radcliff, Kentucky
after University of Louisville and Kent School of School of Social Work accepted him
into the MSSW program. He is very active in the community when it deals with children,
his family does foster care and he is a member of several organizations within Hardin
County such as the Mission Hope for Kids, the Hardin County Restorative Justice Youth
program, the Social Justice Partnership program, and the Juvenile Detention Alternative
Initiative program.
Rudy’s motto is “Social Work is not my profession; it is who I am!”

Interested in presenting a social work Continuing Education Workshop? Submit a proposal to our CEU program. Presenters of approved workshops are offered a small stipend. You can learn about the submission process below.

For assistance with registration or questions about your certificate or registration questions, contact daniel.basta@wku.edu. For questions about the content of the workshops, we will be happy to refer your questions to the best contact in the Department of Social Work.
Individuals must complete registration, attend the session in its entirety, and submit an evaluation for each workshop to receive a certificate indicating the continuing education credit earned. These steps are required to meet the KBSW requirements for social work continuing education.
Kentucky Board of Social Work (KBSW)
An email with the link to the evaluation will be sent to those who met the attendance criteria following each workshop. Use the link to access and complete the evaluation. Our goal is to send the email by the end of the next business day following the workshop.
The system is set to send a confirmation at the time of registration, a reminder one day before the workshop, and a reminder one hour before the workshop. Each of these emails will include Zoom information for live remote/online workshops. You may not have received emails if:

The emails went to your spam or junk folder (locate the emails in these folders and mark them as NOT junk or spam to ensure that you receive future emails)
If you do not have a NetID, close the browser window/tab and open your Zoom application. On the Home screen, click the option to Join. Enter the Meeting ID and Join. Note that you will be asked to "register" as you join the workshop. This is for attendance tracking purposes. It is not required, but helpful, if you enter your name as you did in the registration system and/or as you would like for it to appear on your certificate.

In your initial account creation confirmation email, you received a username (WK#######). Use this username and the password you created to log in. If you do not remember your username OR password, click the Forgot button. Then, enter your email address. You will receive an email with your username and a link to complete the password reset process. It may take the system up to 12 minutes to generate emails, so please allow sufficient time.
Certificates for each workshop are created as a batch. Please bear with us as we allow time for participants to complete all the criteria. Our goal is to distribute certificates within two weeks of the workshop.
