Bob Shyrock

WKU Theatre and Dance Alum

"I came to WKU with the thought of going to dental school afterwards and ultimately becoming a dentist. I still think of how strange and different my life would be now if that was the case! I majored in Biology and minored in Theatre. By my junior year I knew that I was not going to pursue dentistry or biology professionally after college so I hung on to my Biology major simply because I already had so many credits. Despite being "only" a Theatre Minor, I took every class possible and the department distinguished me as an Honorary Theatre Major when I graduated. I was a part of Alpha Psi Omega my junior and senior years. I performed in the Mainstage productions, Dark of the Moon, Inherit the Wind and As Bees in Honey Drown, plus several other productions in the Children's Theatre Series and Studio Series."

A few favorite past roles include Feste and Antonio in Twelfth Night (Ripple Effect Artists, New York, NY); Templeton in Charlotte's Web (Lexington Children's Theatre, Lexington, KY); Jonas in The Giver (Lexington Children's Theatre, Lexington, KY); Romeo in Romeo and Juliet (South Brooklyn Shakespeare, Brooklyn, NY); and Edmund in Long Day's Journey into Night (Hodes Vocal Theatre, New York, NY). Recent directing credits include, Wonderland (working title) a devised, contemporary journey to the Wonderland of Lewis Carroll's books and James and the Giant Peach, both for Bay Area Children's Theatre (Oakland, CA). He holds a Certificate of Training in Mask and Pantomime from Berliner Schule für Schauspiel (Berlin, Germany) and an MFA in Physical Theatre from the Accademia dell'Arte (Arezzo, Italy).

"I have to mention Dr. Young. In the classroom and rehearsal studio he had/s an astute awareness that's paired with an ability to communicate his observations, critiques and suggestions directly, in a way that's both challenging and supportive! I think this is hugely important for people who work with young actors. I had so much fun in his class and the mainstage production he directed but it certainly was never easy and he always knew if you weren't offering your best. He's funny, personable, knowledgable, approachable and hugely talented as an actor, director, and teacher."
