Welcome!
Thinking about studying theatre and dance? An excellent choice! If any of these things sound appealing to you, WKU’s Department of Theatre & Dance might be the creative and academic home you’re looking for:
- An education that’s tailored to you - one focused on helping you discover and explore your interests and passions, then supporting you as you develop your unique artistic voice.
- Experienced, talented professors who genuinely love to teach and will give you one-on-one attention, mentorship, and support from your first day on campus until long after you graduate.
- Plenty of chances to get hands-on experience through our intensive, diverse production season.
- Classes that challenge you to think deeply, critically, and creatively as you develop your craft.
- A balance of rigorous training in your area(s) of interest with a broad understanding of dance and theatre as a whole that will prepare you to thrive in our ever-evolving fields.
- Opportunities to create new work and make the art you want to see in the world.
- A culture that values community and collaboration, not competition.
Do You Offer Scholarships?
Absolutely, and we encourage all students considering WKU to apply! Both the dance
and theatre programs offer scholarships for incoming students that typically run from
$500 to $2000 or more. While the majority of these are one-time awards, we also offer
a large number of scholarships for continuing students each year that you’ll be able
to apply for.
The university also offers a range of scholarships for first-time freshmen and transfer
students that you can learn more about here. Students from states bordering KY are
also eligible to attend WKU at the in-state tuition rate. And best of all? Departmental and university scholarships are stackable up to your
whole cost of attendance!
How Do I Apply For a Dance Program Scholarship?
If you’re a dance student, your required placement audition for the program will also
serve as your scholarship audition. These take place at our Dance Auditions in the
fall and spring, where you’ll participate in a complete ballet technique class, separate
jazz and modern dance portions, and an optional tap combination. If you want to be
considered for a scholarship, you’ll also present a 90 second self-choreographed solo.
Can’t make it to the auditions? There’s also a digital audition option. For more complete
information, click here.
How Do I Apply For a Theatre Program Scholarship?
Depending on your area(s) of interest, you’ll either audition or interview with the
faculty - or maybe both! For specific information on what to prepare, click here.
The best way to make this happen is to attend one of our Theatre Scholarship Day events!
In addition to your audition and/or interview, you’ll have a chance to do workshops
with department faculty, tour our spaces, and have lunch with current students. If
you can’t make it to a Theatre Scholarship Day, there are a few other options as well.
More complete information can be found here.
