Charles Buckner


WKU Theatre and Dance Alum

Charles Buckner is a native of Louisville, KY where he began his training at the Youth Performing School under the direction of Theresa Mudd, Kimberly Herndon and Lora Ruttan. After graduating from the Youth Performing Arts School, Buckner studied at Western Kentucky University where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a minor in Performing Arts administration. At his time at Western Kentucky, Buckner was a Recipient of the Faculty Undergraduate Engagement Grant which allowed him to conduct Research in Concert Black Dance by attending the International Association of Blacks in Dance. 

Shortly after graduating from college, Buckner moved to Chicago, IL to dance with Deeply Rooted Dance Theatre under the direction of Kevin Iega Jeff and Gary Abbott. While living in Chicago, Buckner also served as a guest artist for Ardent Dance Company and was featured in a music video by singer and songwriter for Empire and Star "JUIIX". Shortly after, Buckner featured in an HBO series which premiered late 2019. Buckner is currently serving as a guest artist for South Chicago Dance Theatre under the direction of Kia Smith.
