Hannah Scott
WKU Theatre and Dance Alum
After graduating from WKU, Hannah earned an MFA in Dance in the graduate program at Sam Houston State University. She was also a Teaching Assistant for SHU's Fine Arts and Mass Communications Course.
"I must thank my background at Western Kentucky University for my Current success as a MFA candidate. Though my initial dance training was primarily ballet based, in attending WKU, I was able to grow into a cross-disciplinary artist, which has greatly served me as I transition into a more modern and contemporary dance realm.
In addition, particularly within the world of dance and academia and dance administration, critical thinking skills are a necessary and invaluable tool in clearly expressing the purpose of one's art as well as in applying for the funding needed to keep this artform alive and growing.
A particular trait of mine that I am regularly praised for is my ability to rationalize abstract concepts and apply my dance knowledge beyond a performance context. Personally, I believe that movement, body language, and touch act as a major form of communication that very few people are able to keenly read, interpret, and express. As dancers, we refine these skills on a daily basis and are able to tap into a deeper level of personal expression that serves both us and those around us.
I can say with confidence that I am a better student, leader, and innovator due to my dance training at WKU. I feel that I am able to offer to the world a unique perspective that challenges it to push forward and analyze further, and I hope other Kentuckian dancers are provided the opportunity to do the same."
