GFCB marks passing of Dr. Kay Meggers

Dr. Kay H. Meggers, the Hays Watkins Executive-in-Residence in the Department of Management, died in an accident Friday, December 30th, in Germany.
Dr. Meggers joined the Gordon Ford College of Business faculty in 2017. As a former global business and strategy executive, he brought decades of experience to the classroom and the Hill.
“We are stunned and saddened by the loss of Dr. Meggers,” said Christopher Shook, Dean of the Gordon Ford College of Business, “He brought tremendous expertise to GFCB. Students responded to his knowledge and passion. His colleagues and students will severely miss him.”
Dr. Meggers taught courses in marketing and the capstone course for the Management Department. He always challenged students to apply knowledge in a new and interesting way.
“He poured his energy into preparing students for their careers,” said Whitney Peake, Department Chair of Management, “Dr. Meggers worked to ensure students were aware of the wide-ranging and exciting opportunities ahead of them, and his teaching evaluations always had comments lauding his imperative role in fostering students’ career preparation.”
Seeing Dr. Meggers sitting and talking with students in Grise Hall was common. He was enthusiastic about teaching, mentorship, and student success.
“Dr. Meggers and I had a deep respect for each other’s work in the college and a friendship that I will always cherish,” said Adrianne Browning, GFCB Professional Development Specialist, and Career Coach.
Before joining, GFCB, Dr. Meggers served as Executive Vice President and Group President of Global Rolled Products at Alcoa/Arconic, Senior Vice President at Siemens U.S. Building Technologies Division, and as Business Unit Head of Building Automation. He served from 1983-1985 in the German Army on active duty and, after that, joined the German Army Reserve, where he continued to serve until his death. He advanced to full Colonel and Deputy Brigade Commander (Reserve).
