Biography
Dr. Gihan Edirisinghe is an Assistant Professor of Operations Management in the Department of Management. He earned his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka and went on to earn his Ph.D. in Operations and Management Science from Washington State University. He is also a CIMA Passed Finalist of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (U.K.).
 
Before joining academia, Dr. Edirisinghe served as a civil engineer specializing in project management at the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau, Sri Lanka. In this role, he performed contract negotiations, prepared contractual documents, coordinated architectural, structural, and service designs, and performed public procurement procedures for multiple federally-funded development projects.
 
Dr. Edirisinghe researches brick-and-mortar retail store operations, shipping policies and consumer sentiment in online retailing, and multi-echelon supply chains. His research and teaching innovations have been presented at national conferences of the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI), and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). He has also authored case studies for several of the nation’s leading operations management textbooks.
 
Dr. Edirisinghe is the recipient of research and teaching awards at multiple institutions. Most recently, the GFCB recognized Dr. Edirisinghe’s classroom innovations by awarding him the inaugural Early Career Teaching Innovation Award. Since the Fall of 2022, he serves as the faculty advisor for the WKU student chapter of the professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi. His wife, Sachi, has a Ph.D. in Structural Mechanics. He enjoys trivia, photography, music, sports, and traveling the country with his family.
