First Time Freshman Scholarship Award Letter

Congratulations for being selected as a First-time Freshman to receive a scholarship at Western Kentucky University for the upcoming academic year. Accepting your award is easy! Below are some helpful reminders and a link to TopNet where you can officially accept your award.

Students not admitted by the deadline may still be offered scholarships, but this is not guaranteed.

Scholarship offers are limited and will be offered pending timely application and availability of funds.

Please note that these scholarship awards:

  • are divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters
  • are renewable for three additional academic years or until graduation, whichever is sooner
  • do not apply to Summer and/or Winter terms
  • usually disburse before the semester begins and always show as a credit on the bill, not to exceed the cost of attendance budget
  • require full-time enrollment (at least 12 hours of WKU courses)
  • require you to enroll for the upcoming Fall semester
  • may be provided through a mix of both institutional and foundation funding

GPA Requirements

Cherry Presidential and Gatton scholarship recipients are required to maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade point average in their college studies in order to retain scholarship eligibility.

Other scholarship recipients are required to maintain a cumulative 2.5 grade point average in their college studies in order to retain scholarship eligibility.

Should a student be determined eligible for any full-tuition waiver mandated by the state and funded by the university, all scholarships offered upon admittance to WKU will be upgraded to meet the requirements of the full-tuition waiver. Students may not receive both a university scholarship and a full-tuition waiver simultaneously. Students may receive other cash scholarships such as third-party, foundation, or other externally-funded scholarships.

NOTE: Students conditionally admitted to WKU based upon a self-reported GPA must submit an official high school transcript by December 31st. Estimated scholarship offers up to that point will be confirmed or appropriately adjusted to reflect the award level for which the student qualifies based upon the updated transcript. Scholarships estimated upon a self-reported GPA will not disburse to the student account until an official transcript is received.
