- Friday, December 7th, 2018
Dr. Steven Gibson, an Astronomy professor in the department, is leading a large effort to create a radio telescope facility at WKU. The telescope will be created from a ten-foot diameter satellite dish that was donated from the family of former graduate student Stacy Hicks. Students in Dr. Doug Harper's Data Acquisition Using LabVIEW course are working on software to remotely control and aquire data from the telescope. Professor Joel Lenoir of WKU Engineering is directing senior Mechanical Engineering students to design and build a structure that will support the dish and allow it to track objects to properly work as a telescope.
A recent article in the Bowling Green Daily News highlights the current progress of the engineering design students.
