Letters From Home

Staying connected while you're away at school. The Letters from Home program is an initiative to help AHEC  stay connected with pre-health professions students from the region, who are accepted into medical schools. This program fosters ongoing communication and support between our local medical students and our service area. Additionally, it is a program which connects local students with local healthcare organizations over dinner. Student Dinners are coordinated close to the medical school campuses to help maintain a sense of connection to the region. Representatives from the local area hospitals and healthcare organizations are invited to join AHEC in hosting events, so they may get to know students, follow them along their career path, and hopefully increase the potential that will return back home to practice one day.

The purpose of this program is to continue the health careers pipeline from beginning to retention. Our hope is to change rural health care by following these medical students and bringing them back to practice to decrease the shortage of physicians in our service area.

AHEC will coordinate a dinner in which a medical group will sponsor in one of three locations (Bowling Green, Louisville, and Lexington) with medical students who are WKU alumni OR from the South Central KY AHEC region. The medical groups involved so far are Baptist Health Hardin or Graves Gilbert Clinic.

It is a great opportunity for you to learn about some future opportunities and meet some recruiters early on in your medical career.

Please reach out to Allie Pardue if you have any questions and if you are interested, sign up in your location!
