Dr. Hughes received a A.B. in Speech Communication (1980) and a Master of Arts in Communication (2002) both from WKU. He also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY, 1983. He then had further graduate studies at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and at Hebrew Union College/Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, OH. Dr. Hughes received his Ph. D. in Communication from the University of Kentucky, 2014 with his dissertation: “The Effect of Mediated Immediacy upon State Motivation and Cognitive Learning in an Online Lesson”. He served as senior pastor for twenty years in Carrollton, Maysville, and Auburn, KY. He has also served in the community as a Cub Scout leader (Auburn, KY), member and president of a local Rotary International club (Auburn, KY) founding member and first chairperson of the Board of Directors for Hope House Ministries, Inc. (Bowling Green, KY), and has served as an elder in his church (Living Hope Baptist Church, Bowling Green, KY). Dr. Hughes also holds a Rank 1 Certification for Speech (Grades 7-12) in Kentucky. He is a native of Cadiz, KY.
