Current Flute Students


About Some of Our Current Flute Students

Catherine Watwood is a Senior in the Western Kentucky University Honors College and is pursuing an Instrumental Music Education Major.  A member of Delta Omicron professional music fraternity, Catherine has an active performing schedule as a member of The Symphony at WKU, the WKU Wind Quintet and the WKU Wind Ensemble.  She was chosen to perform on piccolo in the 2012 Kentucky Intercollegiate Orchestra and as a member of the WKU Wind Ensemble at the Kentucky Music Educator's Association Conference.  She performed in China in 2013 with the Symphony. In July 2011, she traveled to Costa Rica to do music educational outreach.  She also studied at the Imani Winds Institute at the Juilliard Conservatory in the Summer of 2011.  Catherine was the First-prize Winner of the 2010 Flute Society of Kentucky High School Soloist Competition, was the Principal Flutist in the 2010 Kentucky Music Educator's Association All-State Band, and Past-Principal Flutist of the Bowling Green Youth Orchestra.  She has performed in masterclasses with Walfrid Kujala, Katherine Borst Jones, Jennifer Mazzoni, The Imani Winds, Keith Underwood, Mary Kay Fink, and Bart Feller. She attended the Oberlin Flute Institute in 2010 and the Ohio State University Flute Workshop in 2009.  She is a 2009 Alumna of the Kentucky Governor's School of the Arts and holds the prestigious Governor's School of the Arts Scholarship and the Charles W. Smith Scholarship at Western Kentucky University.  After graduation, Catherine plans to pursue a graduate degree in flute performance.

Ashley Bishop is a junior in the Music Education program at Western Kentucky University where she studies with Heidi Alvarez. Ashley Has performed as a member of the WKU Symphonic Band, The WKU Wind Ensemble, The WKU Flute Choir and The WKU Symphony. She performed with the Symphony in China in 2013. As a student at Ohio County High School and a private flute student of Paula Humphries, Ashley was the Principal Flutist of the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra, received distinguished ratings at the KMEA Solo and Ensemble festival, and was a member of the KMEA All-State band.
