WKU CCSJ to host 'Coming to America: A Deliberative Dialogue on Immigration'
- WKU Center for Citizenship and Social Justice
- Thursday, November 1st, 2018
The WKU Center for Citizenship & Social Justice invites the campus and broader community to participate in a deliberative dialogue session titled “Let’s Talk Immigration – Coming to America: A Deliberative Dialogue on Immigration” from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Mahurin Honors College-International Center, room 1011.
Through the deliberative dialogue process, participants will explore difficult questions and possible solutions together to determine ideal next steps in addressing these issues as a community. Should we welcome more newcomers to build a more vibrant and diverse society, or does this pose too great a threat to national unity? Should we accept more of the growing numbers of refugees from war-torn regions, or should we avoid the risk of allowing in people whose backgrounds may not have been fully checked? Should our priority be to help immigrants assimilate into our distinctively American way of life, including learning English, or should we instead celebrate a growing mosaic of different peoples? These questions and more will be the focus of the discussion.
The WKU CCSJ Deliberative Dialogue session is open to anyone interested in participating. Online registration is required at www.wku.edu/ccsj/programs/deliberative-dialogue.php Refreshments will be provided. The session is part of International Education Week at WKU.
