Elizabeth Volkman is a full professor of music, and has taught voice in this department for twenty two years. She has her Bachelors degree from University of Colorado at Boulder, CO, and her Masters degree from the Juilliard School of Music in New York.
Elizabeth sang professionally in the opera houses of Europe for six years and sang, on a steady basis, in prominent houses such as: Munich, Cologne, Hamburg, Hannover, Vienna, Dusseldorf, Bonn, Bayreuth, Saarbrucken, Bremerhaven, Stockholm, Geneva, Zurich, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Den Haag, Rotterdam, Schevingen, Eindhoven, Rome, Nice, Bordeaux, and Brussels.
She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1976 and sang there for six years until she came to Bowling Green KY. During these years, she sang in many opera houses here in the United States; for instance, she sang in Houston, Miami, Detroit, Kansas City (four seasons), Wichita, Phoenix, Tucson, Mississippi, Connecticut Grand, Binghamton (Tri-Cities Opera), Columbus, Milwaukee, Chautauqua, and Carnegie Hall.
Ms. Volkman has kept up an active recital schedule as well in the recent years and recently, in the summer of 1997, she made a concert tour of four countries in Europe, and sang twenty-two concerts.
Some of her more famous roles were: Madame Butterfly, Mimi, Vanessa, Ariadne, Rusalka, Countess, Marenka, Micaela, Donna Elvira, Antonia, Lisa, Marzelline, and Alice Ford.
Western Kentucky University is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1948.
