Wayne Pope

Wayne Pope is Assistant Professor of Music at Western Kentucky University where he teaches voice and directs the opera theatre program.

An active recitalist and soloist, Dr. Pope has been featured with the Columbia Lyric Opera, South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra, South Arkansas Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Bowling Green Western Symphony Orchestra and with numerous choral groups including the Palmetto Mastersingers (an eighty voice male chorus). His performances have been featured locally and internationally on National Public Radio programs including Performance Today with Martin Goldsmith. Dr. Pope recently performed the title role in a world premiere tour of J.A.C. Redford's oratorio The Martyrdom of Saint Polycarp with performances throughout Italy and Bulgaria.

He holds the D.M.A. in Voice Performance from the University of South Carolina where he studied voice with Gene Ferguson and choral conducting with Dr. Larry Wyatt. His M.M. in Voice Performance is from Loyola University, New Orleans where he studied with Philip Frohnmayer and his undergraduate degree was earned at Murray State University where he studied voice with Larry Clark and Kay Bates and choral conducting with Robert Baar.

Dr. Pope and his wife Beth, who teaches voice at WKU, reside in Bowling Green with their daughter, Caitlin and their son, Will.
