College Fees in Ogden College

Investing in Student Success

To better support students and enhance experiential learning, Ogden College of Science and Engineering (OCSE) is updating its course fee structure.

OCSE plans to eliminate all its course and program fees and replace them with a single $15/credit hour fee for all courses in the college (excluding dual credit courses). This will allow for:

  • Simplified and Predicable Billing
  • Flexible Funding for Critical Needs and High-Cost Experiential Learning
  • Spread Out Cost-Bearing

How Will the Fees Be Used?

A committee will exist with representatives from each department to advise the Dean on funding needs within the college to properly distribute the funds.

This new structure will allow OCSE to maintain and replace instructional lab equipment. Each piece of equipment carries a significant price tag and experiences heavy usage in introductory, intermediate, and upper-level instructional labs. These funds allow us to maintain and replace lab equipment as needed and keep software up to date, giving our students the best possible applied learning experiences.

With experiential learning comes the need for supplies and consumables which are used frequently and have associated replacement costs. Anything from cables, clamps, measuring spoons, cubs, printer paper, chemicals, dissections supplies, and more are used in labs and lecture classes alike and have a high replacement rate.

These college fees also help with upgrade, maintenance, and replacement of computers, projection, and sound systems in our classrooms. The help us pay for college-specific software and licensing, which avoid high costs for individual licenses for students. Departments can also apply for a small pool of funds to improve student access, study spaces, and tutoring resources.

Employing Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) allows our faculty to concentrate on scholarship, mentoring, and advanced coursework and provides students both an accessible teaching assistant and a role model for their own education.
