Keeling named North American editor for Journal of Transport Geography
- Thursday, March 22nd, 2012
The Board of Editors for the Journal of Transport Geography has appointed Dr. David Keeling, Professor of Geography and Head of the Department of Geography and Geology at WKU, to be the journal’s new North American Editor effective April 1.
The Journal of Transport Geography is a highly ranked, internationally circulated, specialist journal within the academic discipline of geography, focusing on transport and spatial change. It provides an international forum for articles analyzing, from a spatial perspective and relating to geographic theory, the impact of transport policies and infrastructure, the development of transport networks, the operation and use of transport systems, the demand for transport, transport and welfare need, environmental questions and transport and leisure, with special emphasis on topical issues.
Dr. Keeling notes that a major resurgence has occurred in transport geography recently in the wake of political and policy changes, huge transport infrastructure projects and responses to urban traffic congestion. The Journal of Transport Geography provides a central focus for developments in this rapidly expanding sub-discipline. The aim is to bring together contributions from the major strands of current transport geography research: Dr. Keeling serves on the journal’s International Editorial Board as a reviewer and is looking forward to helping further promote the journal and transportation research generally over the next three years during his editorial term.
His recent transport-related research includes an analysis of a new Metrocable system in Medellín, Colombia; rail freight developments in Lincolnshire, England; transport policy challenges in Latin America for the 21st century; and urban transport development in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
