New Faculty to AMS Department

The AMS Department welcomed their two new faculty.
Dr. Douglas Chelson: Douglas Chelson was born and raised in Oregon. He received a Bachelor's in Construction Management at BYU Provo. He began his formal employment with Joseph Hughes Construction in Oregon working as an estimator and the Project Manager of his projects. While working he received his Masters of Business in an executive program from the University of Oregon. He then taught for two years as an instructor at BYU Provo and moved to Maryland to obtain his PHd. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland, with research and dissertation focused on Building Information Modeling and its effects on production. While there he worked as a Project Manager at Fougler-Pratt. He has since taught at California State Chico and Middle Tennessee State University. His current research interests deal with designing a sustainable shelter for developing countries. His personal interests center around singing, building his own homes, and spending time with his wife and ten children.
Dr. Don Schafer: Don Schafer is a newly hired assistant professor in AMS. Last May he graduated from Michigan State University with a PhD in Construction Management. He also holds a MBA from Wright State University and an MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Dayton. His undergraduate work was completed at the University of Akron in Civil Engineering. He has taught construction management courses at Appalachian State University, Michigan State University, and Ohio State. He has worked as a Quality Control Manager, Project Engineer, and Estimator on water and wastewater treatment plants, medical clinics, and office buildings. He is from Greenville, a small community on southwest Ohio, where he worked in his family’s construction business.
