Dr. George V. and Sadie Skiles Page Award for Excellence in Scholarship*

Awarded to the graduating Physics major with the highest academic standing.

James R. Pierce

James Pierce, a senior physics major with mathematics minor, receives the Page Award for Excellence in Scholarship based upon his outstanding academic record while a student at WKU. James’ excellence in the classroom has been accomplished while participating in a variety of scholarly and service activities including serving as a learning assistant in our University Physics I Laboratory for the past two years.  His performance in this area was outstanding and he was given the rare opportunity to teach a section of the laboratory this semester. James has a passion for aviation and is holds a commercial, instrument-rated, pilot license.  He recently combined his interests of physics and aviation in a project in Computational Physics where he wrote a program to simulate the trajectory of the Wright Flyer.  After graduation James will begin working as a flight instructor for Blue Line Aviation in Raleigh, NC.
