Graduates from Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College will seamlessly transfer to WKU to complete their engineering degrees under an agreement between the two institutions.

SKYCTC and WKU signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create a partnership that promotes the transfer of credits between the two institutions and increases educational opportunities for students seeking an engineering degree.

“Engineering is one of the most highly technical and in-demand professions across the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” said Dr. Phillip Neal, Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College President. “SKYCTC is proud to partner with WKU in creating a transfer pathway for students to complete an associate degree and the first two years of their civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering education at a community college, and finish the remaining portion of their engineering bachelor’s degree at one of Kentucky’s finest universities. This opens doors for local residents to enhance their career while giving local industry a stronger applicant pipeline.”

The new engineering pathway at SKYCTC has specific general education courses for engineering students, such as university physics, chemistry, and higher-level calculus courses. SKYCTC has added engineering courses, as well. The additional offerings allow graduates of SKYCTC’s Associate of Science pre-engineering curriculum to seamlessly transfer to WKU to complete their Bachelor of Science degrees in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering.

“Our School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is focused on workforce development. There is a desperate need for engineering graduates everywhere. Getting more students into the pipeline and out into the workforce is important, and this agreement is another pathway to an engineering degree,” said Dr. Stacy Wilson, director of WKU’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

As part of the agreement, SKYCTC will create an advisory board and will invite industry and WKU engineering representatives to review the curriculum periodically. Additionally, SKYCTC engineering students will be invited to participate in WKU Engineering clubs and Expo Day activities.

“We’re very excited about this partnership because it creates more opportunities for students to succeed and earn engineering degrees,” Dr. Wilson said.

WKU Engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
