Congratulations to Seth Klaine who has recently been awarded the 2020 McNally Fellowship, the highest honor for WKU Chemistry graduate students. Seth received a B.S. from WKU with a double major in Chemistry and Biology. Currently, he is the second-year graduate student and working in Professor Rui Zhang’s laboratory. Since 2018, Seth has been engaging in the project titled “Photochemical generation and kinetic studies of high-valent metal-oxo intermediates” that is funded by the National Science Foundation. Seth has shown a great potential to conduct cutting-edge research and made significant progress in the project despite the COVID-19 disruption. In the past year, his research has already led to 3 peer-reviewed publications, in two of which he is the first author. Meanwhile, he has actively presented his research in regional and local conferences, receiving two awards.  In addition, he is the recipient of two internal grants (FUSE and GSRG) with a total of $ 7,500. Upon graduation in 2021, Seth will pursue his Ph.D. studies in medicinal chemistry fields.
