WKU Shared Materials Laboratory

The WKU Shared Materials Lab (SML) is supported by the Dean’s Office of Ogden College of Science and Engineering. The SML has four fume hoods, including an acid-safe hood, and ample bench space for synthesis. Materials synthesis equipment includes a four-arm glovebox for anaerobic work, a microwave, a drying oven, and a Xe-arc lamp. For characterization of materials, a powder X-ray diffractometer, a surface area analyser, and a UV visible spectrometer are available to researchers who complete training. Analytical services (samples are delivered to SML, and results are returned to the requester) are also available in some cases for an additional fee. A full Fee Structure is available.

Those interested in services or in using the space or equipment in the SML should contact the coordinator at materials.lab@wku.edu.
