Eight Dimensions of Wellness

Health and wellness encompasses much more than nutrition and exercise. At WKU, our health educators use the "eight dimensions of wellness" model to demonstrate the importance of balancing the many facets of wellbeing. The eight dimensions we will discuss are: physical, social, occupational, financial, environmental, spiritual, intellectual, and emotional health. This presentation includes a fun activity where students determine how much time they spend working towards wellness in each dimension and how they can improve their overall wellness by balancing these dimensions.

This presentation will meet the following objectives:

  • Students will be able to accurately define what the eight dimensions of wellness model is.

  • Students will understand the importance of balance using the eight dimensions of wellness model.

  • Students will understand the interconnected relationships between the different dimensions of wellness.

  • Students will be able to list ways they can spend more time working towards wellness within each dimension.

  • Students will have facilitated discussions to fully understand how they can achieve balance and which campus resources can help them do that.
