This presentation will address significant points of concern regarding scholarly publishing, particularly as it relates to tenure and promotion requirements. Increasing emphasis on research output coupled with a rise in predatory publishing has raised important ethical questions regarding quality standards for academic publications. The presenter will draw on personal experience as well as existing research related to the roles of open access, journal impact, and artificial intelligence in scholarly publishing. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, view current examples of predatory publishing, engage in open discussion about the promotion process, and suggest new resources for pre-tenured faculty.
