Description:
Dr. Ayesha Hardison is Associate Professor of English at Ohio University and is the author of the recent book Writing through Jane Crow: Race and Gender Politics in African American Literature. Hardison's work explores the means African American women used to navigate and resist the simultaneous racism and sexism enforced by Jim Crow segregation in the United States. Using African American literature by Pauli Murray, Richard Wright, Gwendolyn Brooks, Ralph Ellison, and others as her primary texts, Hardison re-frames predominant senses of Jim Crow by highlighting its gendered manifestations of racism. More information about Hardison's book can be found here: http://books.upress.virginia.edu/detail%2Fbooks%2Fgroup-4688.xml.
Discussion will follow the talk and refreshments will be available.
