Dr. M. Shadee Malaklou to present Gender & Women's Studies Program's Gail Martin Lecture

On Thursday, March 6, Dr. M. Shadee Malaklou, Associate Professor and Chair of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Berea College and inaugural Director of Berea College’s bell hooks center, will give a talk titled “Preserving the Legacy of bell hooks.” This event is being organized by WKU’s Gender & Women’s Studies Program as part of the annual Gail Martin Lecture Series.
Dr. Malaklou’s presentation will discuss the relevance of the late feminist scholar bell hooks’s work to the ongoing fight for racial and gender equality and share with us what they are doing at Berea College (where hooks taught for nearly 20 years) to preserve the legacy of this extraordinary Kentuckian.
Dr. Malaklou is a trans-disciplinary scholar whose work has appeared in a number of academic journals including Theory & Event, Rhizomes, Black Camera, National Political Science Review, Trans-Scripts, and The Journal of Critical Animal Studies. She has also published articles in The Feminist Wire, Counterpunch, and The Conversationalist, and is a guest correspondent on Always already: a critical theory podcast.
Dr. Malaklou’s talk will begin at 4 p.m. March 6 in Gary Ransdell Hall Auditorium (room 1074). Everyone is welcome to attend.
