The WKU Department of English welcomes its sixth class of students in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program this fall.

The incoming students are Prince Bush, a Fisk University graduate from Nashville, Tennessee, concentration in poetry; Caroline Galdi, a University of North Carolina-Greensboro graduate from Apex, North Carolina, concentration in fiction; Chandler Moore, a WKU graduate from Madisonville, Kentucky, concentration in scriptwriting; Sarah Olive, a WKU graduate from Louisville, Kentucky, concentration in scriptwriting; and Ericka Russell, an Ohio University graduate from Pandora, Ohio, concentration in fiction.

“We’re thrilled to welcome this year’s class of MFA students to WKU and the English Department,” said Dr. David Bell, Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing Program. “Once again, we are impressed by the quality of their writing and expect them all to contribute great things to the university and the community in the coming years.”

The students are fully funded with teaching assistantships for the three-year, residential course of study.

The MFA in Creative Writing program prepares students for lives as writers of novels, short fiction, creative nonfiction, scripts and poetry and related pursuits such as teaching, literary editing and publishing. Students also complete a secondary concentration in literature, composition/rhetoric or teaching English as a second language in order to give them additional options for employment after graduation.

The program of study consists of 48 credit hours of graduate course work, culminating in comprehensive exams and the completion of a publishable creative thesis in fiction, poetry, scriptwriting or creative nonfiction.
