Amsterdam, New York – March 8, 2021 – LitCon, a yearly live online literary convention, has named WKU Graduate Assistant Instructor (M.F.A. Screenwriting) Jon Meyers as their first Literary Fiction Genre Manager for their 2022 literary conference. Meyers participated in the 2021 conference as a featured panelist on two screenwriting panels last weekend.
LitCon features craft discussions with published authors in multiple genres: Fantasy, Science Fiction. Horror, Poetry, Mystery/Thriller, Young Adult, Children’s Books, Screenwriting – and now, Literary Fiction.
“Although I was invited as a screenwriter, and I will still be returning as a screenwriter in 2022, our pre-conference discussion somehow veered off into the novel I will be finishing later this year,” Meyers said. “My novel – which I started in Dr. Nancy Dinan’s Advanced Fiction course -- doesn’t really fit into any of LitCon’s existing genres, so we were talking about the best fit for me next year. One thing led to another, and they not only added Literary Fiction, but handed over what that will look like to me.”
LitCon was birthed as a result of attendees from several other book conventions wanting to see these craft and publishing conversations continue -- despite many other conventions going by the wayside. LitCon allows attendees to network with fellow authors, publishers, service providers, book bloggers, and most importantly readers. Previous virtual conventions with which LitCon’s board has worked saw between 800 and 2,000 participants -- plus online traffic in the thousands during the weekend of the events.
“Jon Meyers was an invaluable member of our screenwriting panels during LitCon 2021,” said LitCon founding board member Alison Weaverdyck, who publishes under the name of Phoebe Darqueling. “I look forward to working with him next year as our Literary Fiction Genre Manager.”
Meyers has a B.A. in Film, and an M.A. in English from WKU. He graduates this summer with an M.F.A. in Screenwriting. Meyers also serves as the only US moderator at IntoTheScript, formerly Bang2Write, England’s foremost online screenwriting community. Renowned for its “no nonsense, detailed writing and career advice,” IntoTheScript is an online craft and writing tip resource for professional writers, with an emphasis on screenwriting and novel writing. Meyers also occasionally serves as an hourly host for DePaul’s Scott Myers’ monthly 24-hour online screenwriting marathon at ZeroDraftThirty.
LitCon 2022 will take place March 4-6, 2022. Registration has already opened for LitCon 2022 at: https://tinyurl.com/yckwadkt . For more details, go to LitCon.org .
