Online Course Quality Grant


The Online Course Quality Grant supports faculty teaching fully online courses in the development of exemplary online courses that demonstrate high standards in design, engagement, and accessibility.

Deadlines for the completed applications are as follows:
  • For Summer courses, applications are due by March 15th.
  • For Fall courses, applications are due by April 1st.
  • For Winter, applications are due by September 1st.
  • For Spring, applications are due by September 1st. 

Faculty will be awarded up to $1,500 as a stipend for a course quality grant.  This will be divided into two payments. 

  1. The initial $250 will be awarded upon completion of an initial course review which will address the following assessments. This review will culminate in a meeting in which a CITL staff will discuss recommendations and required revisions with the grantee. 
    • Initial Exemplary Course Review Assessment conducted collaboratively by thegranteeand CITL which is based upon a review of the self-assessment and course review. 
    • Feedback Meeting: CITL staff will discuss strengths, recommendations, and required revisions with the grantee, providing a detailed revision plan. 
  2. Assuming acceptance of the recommendations and revisions, the remaining $1250 will be awarded upon completion of the following: 
    • Implementation of all recommended revisions. 
    • Achieving Exemplary Course Assessment standards with a passing rate of 80% or higher (this assessment will take place ¾ of the way through the term taught). 

*Note the minimum standards may be increased if course initially meets the minimum standards to encourage continuous improvement. 

Grants will be limited to 10 within a fiscal year.

All full-time faculty and instructors who teach at least one fully online course are eligible to apply. To receive funding, the instructor/course must:  

  • Have taught the course previously.
  • Be scheduled to teach the course for the coming academic year beginning with the summer semester (summer, fall, or spring). Preference will be given to courses that are taught with higher frequency. 
  • Have academic department approval indicating how the course aligns with the department’s goals and curriculum. 
  • Meet at least one of the following conditions for priority consideration such as:  
    • Be within the Colonnade program,
    • Have a high DFW rate (over 15%),
    • Have enrollments of 25 or more students,
    • Be part of an online program, and/or
    • Be offered on an annual basis.
  • Seminar and special topics courses are not eligible for consideration.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who have not received CITL funding in the past year, though previous recipients of CITL grants (e.g., Teaching Development Grant or AI grant) may apply.
  • Faculty who have been awarded an Online Course Quality Grant are not eligible to receive an award in consecutive years.
  • A course may only be submitted once every three years.
  • Faculty who do not complete the agreed upon activities and do not make the recommended improvements may not be eligible to receive an award in consecutive academic years. 

Applications will be reviewed and selected based on:    

  • Opportunity for growth and improvement.
  • Alignment with institutional and departmental goals.
  • Potential impact on student success and learning outcomes.
