WKU Accounts and Registration

Your WKU Accounts

By the time you receive your admissions letter, online WKU accounts will already have been created for you. You can manage all of your WKU accounts HERE.

Your WKU ID (80X number) is your identification number on campus that will be crucial for so many of your activities prior to and during your stay at WKU. You will also receive a NetID username that you will use to login to many of the WKU systems you will use on a regular basis.

TOPNET is your link to all of your WKU information: transcripts, billing, meals, housing, etc. Blackboard is the site you will use to access course information and documents and submit assignments.

You will also have a WKU email address that will appear in the following format: firstname.lastname###@topper.wku.edu. This will be the primary means of communication from all WKU staff and faculty and is where important immigration and other updates will be sent.

Course Registration

As an exchange student, you have access to a wide range of WKU courses. Nevertheless, many upper level classes require pre-requisites (courses you must have taken prior and earned an appropriate grade) and you will need to show that you have completed such courses at your home institution. Use the schedule of classes to look up available courses for a particular term. Consult the course catalog to look up course descriptions and pre-requisites.

IMPORTANT: You must be a full-time student to maintain your J-1 status. To be "full-time" as an UNDERGRADUATE you must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and no more than 18 credit hours per semester, which usually equates to 4-6 courses. If, as an undergraduate, you wish to take more than 18 credits, you are responsible for any and all additional costs. To be a "full-time" GRADUATE student, you must be enrolled in 9-credit hours per semester; all of these credits hours should come from graduate level courses.

Online courses are available to WKU students, including J-1/exchange students. However, please note that undergraduate students choosing to register for online courses must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours of face-to-face coursework, graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours of face-to-face coursework. Students should be aware that online/distance learning courses cost more per credit hour than face-to-face courses (for more information, click here). WKU Global will not prevent exchange students from registering for online courses provided that they maintain the necessary number of face-to-face credit hours. However, the student will be responsible for covering the additional tuition costs of those courses.
