Admission and Visa Information

Once an international admissions staff member has reviewed and  accepted your application, and assuming we have received all necessary documentation from the application process, we will send you the following items:

1. Formal Letter of Admission, including information about arrival and orientation;

2. DS-2019. You will receive an electronic copy of your DS-2019, which is a "Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor (J-1) Status", permitting a prospective exchange visitor to seek an interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate in order to obtain a J-1 visa to enter the United States;

3. SEVIS Number. Included in the DS-2019 will be a SEVIS ID number. This number will enable you to go online and pay your required SEVIS tracking fee. Be sure to print off a receipt showing you have paid the tracking fee.

You will need to take these items, along with a copy of your financial statement, to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country when applying for the J-1 Visa. Do not delay beginning the visa application process. Students who fail to obtain their U.S. visa and arrive by the first week of classes will not be eligible to complete a semester of study at WKU.
