Nomination and Application Process
For prospective exchange students interested in studying at WKU :
If an agreement exists between WKU and your University, you are eligible to apply to WKU as an exchange student.
First, you'll need to contact your university's international office. Only applications from students with formal nominations from the international office of the exchange partner university will be reviewed.
If your nomination is approved, you will be notified and will receive instructions for the next steps in the application process. Please keep in mind: nomination approval does not guarantee admission to WKU or ability to enroll in all of your desired courses.
For Exchange Coordinators at WKU partner institutions:
Nominations of exchange students may be submitted through the ONLINE NOMINATION FORM. The link is also sent by email to all active exchange partners each semester.
The following information is required at the time of nomination: student's name, year in school, GPA/academic rank, desired semester(s) of exchange, major/field of study, desired areas of study at WKU, a copy of the student's transcript, and TOEFL score.
The deadline for nominating students wishing to study at WKU during the fall semester is May 1st. For the spring semester, the deadline is October 1st.
Nominated students, whether undergraduate or graduate, should meet the requirements as laid out in the Exchange Agreement. Exchange Coordinators should also consider students' English language skills. An adequate level of English language proficiency is crucial for ensuring that the students will have the skills necessary to thrive both academically and socially and also that faculty will not be burdened with providing additional language support in their classrooms.
Undergraduate students are required to score a minimum of 65 (internet-based)/500 (paper-based) on the TOEFL or a 5.5 on the IELTS Academic.
Graduate students are subject to the Graduate School Admission requirements for international students. The Graduate School requires that students provide:
Evidence of ability to communicate in English (a minimum of 550 on the written TOEFL, a minimum of 79 on the internet TOEFL, or a minimum of 6.0 on the IELTS Academic).

English language requirements for both undergraduate and graduate exchange students are not absolute; individual academic departments may have different expectations for students seeking admission to their programs or enrollment in their courses and may make the final decision on exchange student admission.
