Honors Band Audition Music

Instructions for submitting the video audition:
Deadline is Wedneday, January 10, 2024, 11:59 PM CST

Students will record an unedited video of all audition materials. The student may only pause the video between scales and the two required etudes.

1. Place video camera or phone so that the student is visible in the video from the front.
2. Once the recording device is started, the student must announce their full name (first and last name), current grade for the 2023-2024 school year, and what school they attend.
3. The student will then record themselves performing the following major scales and chromatic with a tempo of the quarter note at 90 bpm.  Scales do not need to be memorized.

Flute:  
C Major (two to three octaves if possible)
Ab Major (two octaves)
Chromatic (student’s full practical range)

Oboe:                
C Major (two octaves)
E-flat major (two octaves)
Chromatic (student’s full practical range)

Bassoon:           
G Major (two octaves) 
A-flat Major (two octaves)
Chromatic (student’s full practical range)

B-Flat Clarinet:     
G Major – Concert F (three octaves if possible)
B-flat Major – Concert A-flat (two octaves)
Chromatic (student’s full practical range)

B-Flat Bass Clarintet:   
G Major - Concert F  (two octaves)
B-flat Major – Concert A-flat (two octaves)
 Chromatic (student’s full practical range)

Alto & Bari Saxophones:     
D Major – Concert F (two octaves)
E-flat Major – Concert Gb (two octaves)
Chromatic (student’s full practical range)

Tenor Saxophones:     
D Major – Concert C (two octaves)
E-flat Major – Concert Db (two octaves)
Chromatic (student’s full practical range)

Horn:                 
F Major – Concert B-flat (two octaves)
G Major – Concert C (two octaves)

Trumpet:           
B-flat – Concert A-flat (two octaves)

Perform mallet etude plus snare or timpani.  Please prepare and perform two of the three percussion etudes
                          
Snare:                
Rudiments: Open and buzz rolls starting at piano with crescendo to fortissimo and back down to piano.  

Perform snare etude plus mallet or timapi.  Please prepare and perform two of the three percussion etudes
 
4. Perform and record the two required etudes
5. All scales and the two etudes MUST be recorded on one video submission.
6. Save the video and upload to YouTube as an unlisted video. This will prevent anyone without the link from being able to view the video. 
7. Submit the video along with other pertinent information at the following link. Once successfully submitted, you will receive an email confirmation that your submission was received.

1. Create a YouTube Account (www.YouTube.com)
    2. Upload your audition video (A single video should include all scales and etudes). 
    3. Go to your My Videos page.
    4. Select the video which you'd like to make an unlisted video. 
     5. Click the Edit button to access the video's settings.
    6. Go to the Privacy section of the page. 
    7. Select UNLISTED (NOT PRIVATE)
    8. Save Changes
    9. Copy video link and insert here!
