New Faculty Checklist
- Complete Human Resources onboarding tasks.
- Hook up to Email and technology access.
- Sign-up for Parking and review campus maps. Take a virtual tour of campus.
- Download the WKU App to have a valuable resource at your fingertips.
- Consult with Departmental Office Associate about office, printer, keys.
- Schedule a meeting/phone conversation with your Department Head/Chair to get an understanding of job expectations.
- Familiarize yourself with your department’s web page.
- Learn about Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) at WKU.
- Register for WKU Emergency text-alert system (TOPNET/Personal Information/View-Update Cell Phone Messaging Notification).
- Familiarize yourself with WKU’s Emergency Procedures.
- Check book orders and/or get training on the process. Contact the WKU Store if you need help.
- Note syllabus requirements and Academic Calendar as you create your own syllabi. Consult with department head/chair about any additional requirements.
- Sign-up for mandatory Blackboard training.
- Review Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) website to learn about their resources and contact them if you need assistance.
- Check out WKU library resources and contact a librarian if you need help with their services.
- Learn about Colonnade, WKU’s integrated general education program.
- Access TopNet and post final syllabi on TopNet at least a week before classes begin.
- Visit your classrooms and test the technology a few days before class.
- Attend President Caboni’s Convocation and college and departmental meetings.
- Attend New Faculty Orientation.
- Finalize HR paperwork.
- Complete the required Title IX Training.
- Schedule an appointment with University Photography, located on the 3rd floor of the Wetherby Administration Building, to have a photo made that will be posted on the department webpage.
- Learn about the many activities and events on campus. Check out the: Cultural Enhancement Series, Concert Series, Theatre and Dance Performances, Hardin Planetarium and L.D. Brown Ag/Expo Center to name a few!
- Strive to create a Work-Life balance.
- Familiarize yourself with the Communication & Branding Manual. It provides guidelines, templates, and information to assist in ensuring the WKU image is wholly representative of our values. Additional information may be viewed on the Public Affairs webpage.
