Students have three move-in options to choose from:

About Top Drop & Go

The Top Drop & Go move-in option allows students to drop off their belongings in their residence hall room early and return home until it is time to return to campus for the fall, avoiding the larger move-in rush. There is no extra cost for students to drop off their items early.

Eligibility
  • We highly encourage students who have conflicts with the scheduled move-in dates to utilize this option, though ALL STUDENTS are eligible for TOP DROP (except in Minton Hall)

  • Students MUST have received their WKU ID card prior to arriving on campus to utilize the Top Drop & Go option. The ID card will be programmed to allow door access at the residence hall front door for the allotted two-hour timeslot

  • Top Drop and Go is NOT available at Minton Hall, as it is serving as a 2024 summer hall. Students with a fall 2024 room assignment in Minton Hall may apply for summer housing if they need to move in early. Summer housing charges are pro-rated by the night. Learn More

Timeslots

Top Drop & Go timeslots are available August 2-4, 2024.

Students are required to sign up for a two-hour Top Drop & Go timeslot through the WKU Housing Portal.

The two-hour timeslot allots for electronic door access, moving belongings into the residence hall, and leaving campus. Timeslots are separated by 20 minutes, per student, per elevator or stairwell (all halls have elevators except Bates Runner, Gilbert, McLean, and the south tower of Douglas Keen Hall - rooms X21-X42).

The deadline to sign up for a Top Drop & Go timeslot is July 19, 2024.

Instructions for Top Drop & Go

  • You will receive personalized instructions in your email after signing up for a Top Drop & Go Timeslot.  This email will be sent a few days prior to your timelot date.

  • Student belongings must be left in containers; the room should be set up after students return to campus. This helps prevent any potential damage to belongings while the student is away for an extended period of time. Appliances and electronics should not be plugged in. Please DO NOT bring any perishable items during Top Drop & Go.

  • Students should move-in the majority of belongings for their room during their Top Drop & Go timeslot. When returning to campus, students should plan to only have a small amount of items left to bring (food, toiletries, etc.).

  • Families are strongly encouraged to review that they have everything they need prior to leaving the hall during Top Drop & Go. However, if you have left something you need, please call WKU Housing & Residence Life at (270)745-3143 to arrange a time for pick up.

Returning To Campus

Students can return to campus in time for their program (ex. Sorority Recruitment, ISEC Academy, M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan, etc.) or for the beginning of classes.

Students do not need an additional move in timeslot for their return and are not required to visit drive-thru check-in.

Please park in an exterior parking lot upon your return.

Groups are asked to follow these returning timeframes in order to not interfere with other students moving in.

Please follow detailed instructions provided by your program leadership.

  • Students not attending a special program may return to campus any day/time between August 16 and August 18, 2024.

About Special Programs Move In

Students attending one of WKU’s early orientation events, who do not choose the Top Drop & Go option, should sign up for a move in timeslot on the dates outlined below.

Eligibility

Students participating in a special program are eligible to sign up for the special programs move-in option; these students may opt for a Top Drop & Go move-in timeslot instead, if desired. Students only need one timeslot.

Timeslots

Move-in timeslots are scheduled in 20 minute increments - think of this as your "arrival time." This amount of time accounts for drive-thru check-in. You do not need to be finished moving in within the 20 minutes.

Timeslots are created to limit lines and pace elevator/stairwell demand (all halls have elevators except Bates, Gilbert, McLean, the north tower of Douglas Keen Hall - rooms X01-X20, Munday Hall rooms 300-327, and Southwest Hall rooms 328-355).

After drive-thru check-in, move belongings out of the vehicle at the residence hall and relocate your vehicle to a perimeter parking lot to allow space for others moving in.

Timeslots are available during the following dates for each group:

  1. Summer Scholars - July 8

  2. Sorority Recruitment – August 8

  3. ISEC Academy - August 10

  4. M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan – August 12-13

  5. Approved Early Arrivals - August 6-7 and 8-10 (go to residence hall directly for check-in; drive-thru check-in not available)

Check-In Instructions

After signing up for a move-in timeslot, personalized instructions will be sent to you via email. These instructions will include:

  1. A confirmation of your residence hall and room number
  2. Your move-in timeslot
  3. Your drive-thru check-in and key pick-up location (visit this location BEFORE going to your residence hall)
  4. A personalized QR code used for contactless check-in

Please print or save/screenshot the email to your phone so your instructions and barcode are easily accessible during the check-in process.

About August 16-18 Move-In

Students desiring to move-in for the fall semester without utilizing the Top Drop & Go or special programs move-in options can move in August 16-18, 2024.

Eligibility

Returning students and first year students not participating in special programs.

Timeslots

Move-in timeslots are 20 minutes - think of this as your "arrival time." This amount of time allots for drive-thru check in, moving belongings out of the vehicle, and relocating your vehicle to a perimeter parking lot. Move-in does not have to be completed within the 20 minutes.

Timeslots are separated by 20 minutes, per student, per elevator. Volunteers are not available during this move-in, so please consider asking family and/or friends to help you move in.

Check-In Instructions

After signing up for a move-in timeslot, personalized instructions will be sent to you via email. These instructions will include:

  1. A confirmation of your residence hall and room number

  2. Your move-in timeslot

  3. Your drive-thru check-in and key pick-up location (visit this location BEFORE going to your residence hall).

Students moving in after 2 PM August 18 will go directly to the residence hall front desk

  4. A personalized QR code used for contactless check-in

Please print or save/screenshot the email to your phone so your instructions and barcode are easily accessible during the check-in process.

Individual Early Arrival Requests

Additionally, Housing & Residence Life will provide early move-in for individual students having a genuine need to be on campus early, due to practice, employment, or in support of activities for M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan. Students working with campus departments/organizations do not need to request early arrival. HRL will receive a roster from the sponsoring organization and students will be able to choose their move-in timeslot on the WKU Housing Portal as usual.

Students who do not not have a University-business related reason to arrive early, but have an individual need, can request to arrive early through the WKU Housing Portal via my.wku.edu.
