The residence halls will close on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 6 PM for winter break, with the exception of Pearce Ford Tower, Meredith, and Zacharias Halls.*

All residence halls will reopen on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 8 AM.
Before you leave for Winter Break, please do the following:
1. Register for the Spring Semester
Make sure you have your spring class schedule before you leave for the break. If you need to register, the Academic and Career Development Center has walk-in advisors available to help you.
The Academic and Career Development Center is located in the Downing Student Union in room 2141 and is open Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
2. Prepare Your Room for the Break
- Defrost and unplug refrigerator. Prop door open to prevent mold and mildew build-up. Make sure the refrigerator is
clean and dry.
- Unplug all electrical equipment including computers, aquariums, stereos, televisions, etc.
- Per university policy, ensure that items are moved away from the heating unit.
- Wash dishes.
- Take all trash to the compactor. Clean out your trash can.
- Set the room temperature to 70 degrees and the fan speed in auto.
- Close and lock windows.
- Turn off your room lights.
- Lock the door.
- Sign the form on your door and check out at the front desk. Make sure you have all your important items and documents (prescriptions, IDs, etc.).
You do NOT need to remove all of your belongings from your room during Winter Break. Only remove all of your belongings if you plan on checking out and are not returning in the Spring Semester.
How to Defrost Your Fridge
*Begin the process 24-48 hours before you intend to leave.

Unplug the refrigerator.

Empty all contents from the fridge. If you do not plan to keep or give away the items, dispose of them in the trash compactor.

Prop the door open.

Place a towel in front of the fridge to absorb the water draining from the fridge.

Clean the fridge. Leave the door open to prevent mold/mildew.
If you are leaving WKU Housing permanently at the end of the fall semester, complete the "Intent to Vacate" form in the WKU Housing Portal as soon as possible and HRL staff will contact you with instructions. Learn More

Winter Break Housing dates begin at 6 PM on Friday, December 6, 2024 and ends on January 17, 2025 at 8 AM.

To be eligible to stay in the winter break housing students must be enrolled for the following spring semester
Rate
Winter break housing is a flat fee of $450, and will be added to your spring housing bill.
Students who reside in Pearce Ford Tower, Meredith and Zacaharias halls, who apply for winter break housing, will remain in their current room assignments. Students from other halls will be assigned a temporary space in Pearce Ford Tower, as space allows.
Occupancy during winter break is contingent upon compliance with current University rules and regulations and the resident not having a financial obligation with Housing and Residence Life.
